Using the brilliant analogy of a vine and its branches, Jesus allows us to see that when we have a new life, we will bear fruit as a natural result.  Dead branches do not bear fruit.  The fruit suggests a guaranteed natural product of the Spirit made possible by the living relationship between the Christian and God.  A tree does not have to hope for fruit, it will bear fruit naturally.  A Christian is now a new creature, born of the Spirit and so he or she will bear Spirit-fruit, not flesh fruit.

Galatians 5: 16-26   Read this Scripture.

But as a vine needs proper nutrients, water, light, trimming and positioning, so does the Christian.  A vine is dependent upon others to help it grow.  While there will be many times that other believers will come to us to help us grown, in large part we are responsible for getting in the place where we can receive the proper nutrients.

  1. What are some on the nutrients that are needed in my life as a Christian?
  2. How does one “position” himself to receive the nutrients needed?
  3. What strategy could you implement to allow the Holy Spirit more freedom in developing Biblical discipleship within your life?
