5/08 Transformation of the Heart

As we talked last month it is very important as a Christian that we are aware of the three principles for growth as a disciple who is set free from the ways of the world to follow the ways of God.

1. Get Into God's Truth: Develop a habit of acquiring the Word of God.
2. Question the World: Make a regular practice of questioning the values and the teachings of the world.
3. Cling to God's Truth: Counteract the influences of the world by clinging to Jesus' teaching.

The second major change that happens as we grow in Christ is LOVE. Jesus' love causes a transformation of the heart by which we are able to love each other with God's love. Let's read: John 13: 34 - 35

Love became a distinguishing mark of the early church even when there was persecution. The result was a fellowship of love. So, how does one grow into this love? Thought you would never ask..

1. Change the kind of love you practice: Love from God's prospective is primarily an action. Read Romans 5: 5, 8.

We define love: Love is an unconditional commitment to an imperfect person; a commitment I give myself to in order to bring relationship to God's intended purpose.

2. Allow love to change our heart: We must acknowledge what John declares in I John 4:19

We love, not because we are such naturally loving people,
but because God first loved us.

God is love. And He is infinite. His love pours into our hearts and overflows to those around us.

1. Well, how are you doing in the LOVE department?
2. When do you find it the most difficult time to love?
3. What are some ways that you have found to encourage love in your life?
4. How can I be reminded of the need for love in my life as a growing Christian.
5. How can I direct love toward other Christians/non-Christians?
