A Shepherds Heart with a Disciples Focus
Community Christian Church celebrated a milestone this week, honoring Children’s Minister Matt Johnson and his family—Kailen, Zacheriah, and Tyrza—for 15 years of faithful service to CCC’s children and families.
What began as a calling has become a legacy. Over a decade and a half, Matt and the Johnson family have helped shape thousands of children’s lives through Sunday mornings, mid-week programming, Vacation Bible School, church camps, and countless behind-the-scenes moments of planning, prayer, and care. Their steady presence has pointed the next generation to Jesus with patience, creativity, and joy.
“Not tens, not hundreds, but thousands of children’s lives have been touched by the Johnsons’ faith, love, and steady presence,” said church leaders in a presentation during Sunday services. “They’ve celebrated milestones, walked with kids through questions and challenges, and reminded all of us that the Gospel is good news for every age.”
Beyond programs and calendars, members point to the Johnsons’ shepherd’s heart—the handwritten notes, the drop-everything phone calls, the way they make a nervous first-timer feel at home. Parents, volunteers, and staff consistently describe Matt’s leadership as humble, servant-minded, and team-building, and the family’s ministry as a shared calling that has blessed the entire church body.
As part of the celebration, CCC gave Matt and his family a gift to show their appreciation and invited members to share favorite memories and notes of appreciation. The outpouring reflected the breadth of the Johnsons’ impact—from former kids now serving as volunteers, to parents whose children first decided to follow Jesus in CCC Kids.
“Matt and the Johnsons have left fingerprints all over this church family,” one parent shared. “Our kids know Jesus better because of them.”
Community Christian Church extends heartfelt thanks to Matt, Kailen, Zacheriah, and Tyrza for showing up, staying faithful, and building something eternal. We honor you, we love you, and we thank God for you.
